Girly-Spring

I put this collection together when I was in a particularly "girly-spring" mood. I started with the center pieces: a flowy skirt and racer back tank and added on from there. The collection revolves around neutrals but also an unexpected pop of turquoise. I love bringing an unexpected element to outfits, I always feel "complete".

With this collection I also decided to purposely only choose pieces that were under $50. I have mentioned a few times now that I am pretty frugal so it was important to me to prove that you don't need to spend a fortune to have a pretty cute outfit.

I could see myself wearing this look really anywhere (except the office because it's pretty conservative) from running errands, lunch with friends, dinner with hubs, etc.

If I could immediately have one piece from this collection I would have to pick the turquoise flat sandals...which are actually only $15 from Target!!! so that thought may just come true! Welcome warm weather!

Christmas quilt

So this past Christmas both sides of our family decided to do a "present-less Christmas". This was decided for multiple reasons but the main reason was to help everyone save some money. Well there were some exceptions on both sides. On my family's side: we did Secret Santas for the pet babies! This is a tradition that we have been doing every year and I.LOVE.IT!

Puppies got their favorites: treats, from the "kitty cousins" (I've already stated that yes, I am that kind of pet person)

My sister's cat, Claude and his Christmas T and furry mice from Hank

My parents' cat, Lightening and his Christmas sweater :)
Well the obvious exception on Matt's side was our neice. It was her 1st Christmas and there was no way I was going to not make something extra special! So I decided to make her a quilt after seeing specialty fabric found on etsy. Well I had never made a quilt before so I decided to enlist the help of my mom, who is amazing at sewing.

The fabric all cut and getting pieced together

see she has all the fancy tools

Me actually doing some of the work :)

I can sew, with lots of directions from mom

spraying to keep the front and back stuck to the backing

A Date With Nature

Don't get me wrong, I love Ms. Mother Nature...but in certain forms. I have incorporated nature prints on the walls of our home, the throw pillows on our couch have leaves on them, we have dried willow branches in a vase...you get the point. So it's no surprise that I would like to accessorize with nature when it comes to my wardrobe but in a classy, girly sort of way.

When I saw this AMAZING gold, polyester/silk dress I knew I had to create a "date with nature" look.

While sorting through the oodles and oodles of accessories and add-ons I was honestly having a hard time deciding what to pair with this amazing dress. Do I choose gold because the dress is gold? Do I choose silver because of the threading? So many choices, what was a girl to do??? Well this girl decided to go with 2 color schemes of course!

The left side accessories keep the dress as the main focus by using silver accessories with a subtle touch of green, to subconsciously emphasize the nature feel. It would also likely be the side to wear to an event where you didn't want to be the "stand out" but also didn't want to be forgotten.

The right side was my "creative" side coming out. I really really really wanted to add colors but was having trouble picking a color until I remembered back to 7th grade art class and learning the importance of opposite colors on the color wheel. And what's opposite of yellow (close enough to gold)??? PURPLE! I heart purple! So the right side played up the nature feel with leaves and natural materials (agates, stones, and leather) while incorporating more color and playfulness.

There are sooo many pieces in this collection that I would welcome into my wardrobe in a second. But my #1 pick from this collection (aside from the obvious dress) would be the green and gold ring because I have "thicker" fingers (they're not huge, they're just not skinny minny fingers) and I can pull off large rings quite well if I do say so myself. ;)

AND I have decided to keep the "under $50 finds" challenge going. I have decided that in any of these collections you will never see an item over $50 that doesn't have a similar item for under $50 for comparison. Enjoy!

"Wordless Wednesday" with some "choice" words

Seriously!?!? I mean COME ON! It's April 20th! We got our 1st snow fall back on November 16th...that's 5 months of snow! I have some Spring clothes that are dying to make a debut, I'm so ready to be done with this weather. But alas there is nothing I can do about weather so I'll just pull on another sweater and my big girl pants and go on with my day.
