About We

In March 2008, after about a year of living back in the Twin Cities area, my good friend from high school asked if I'd be open to going on a blind date. I said 'sure' and was told about this great guy...Matt. :)

At the same time, a family friend of Matt's asked him if he'd be open to going on a blind date...he said "no". sad :( But after some months and some thinking, 'something' told him to go for it and he was told about this great girl...me!

In mid-June 2008, Matt decided to finally (after about 3 months!) call me. During our first conversation we talked for over 2 hours and planned a date for that following Friday (June 20th). We planned to meet at a restaurant half way between our homes at 6pm. But...of course I was running a half hour late and Matt had already gotten there a half hour early! Eek! After he waited for about an hour, we met and had dinner, it was instant chemistry (for me anyway!). After talking and hanging out for about 5 hours we decided that this was something worth pursuing. The next day, I threw all the 'rules' out the window and called him and asked if he'd like to have dinner with me...and my cousins who were in town. He eagerly agreed and rode his Harley through the rain to get to the restaurant! That night driving home from the restaurant, I called my good college friend and roommate and told her I really hoped he wanted to marry me...because I was going to marry him!

On June 20th (our 1 year anniversary), Matt planned a surprise dinner for us. While getting ready at his house (which is now "our home") I saw a pile of quilts in the closet and asked about them, Matt quickly said they were from his grandma and said that we needed to get going. Matt surprised me by taking us back to the restaurant where we had first met exactly 1 year ago! After dinner, which he was sort of 'weird' through out, he suggested we go for a walk. He led us down to the pavilion by the lake because "aren't those flowers so pretty? let's check them out".

Matt started talking about how much this past year has meant to him...and a lot of other amazing things that I instantly forgot he said when he pulled out the ring. Surprised, I asked, "are you proposing?!?" Awkwardly, Matt answered, "um, yes.?." I said, "ok" and waited. Matt simply and honestly asked if I would marry him and obviously I excitedly said YES! (Later Matt told me he had hid the ring between the quilts in the closet and almost had a heart attack when I asked about them right before dinner!)

Exactly 2 years after we met and 1 year after he proposed we got married. The weather cooperated and it was a perfect day (and weekend) filled with family and friends. I really surprised myself by being so calm (although there were at least 2 times I remember almost freaking out...but let's be honest that's not too bad!). However, when it came time for our vows I lost it! As soon as our pastor started talking the tears started streaming down my face and by the time it was my turn to repeat my vows I literally could.not.talk...then Matt leaned in and whispered "it's ok". That's all I needed to hear and it was downhill from there!

Since then we have been doing what every Newlywed couple does...getting used to living with someone else. We have definately had our trying moments filled of tears and yelling, but at the end of the day we are married and that means more than any disagreement ever will.
